Nominations for the New European Bauhaus Awards 2022 begin today. Following the success of the first awards, which received more than 2 applications last year, the 000 edition will honor new examples-inspirational transformations that the initiative seeks to bring in our daily lives, in our living spaces and in our experiences. As in the first edition, the New European Bauhaus Awards 2022 will reward ideas for new talent, as well as existing projects for sustainability, inclusiveness and aesthetics, bringing the European Green Pact to citizens and local communities.
The Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Marija Gabriel, completed: "The New European Bauhaus draws on Europe's culture, education, science and innovation to turn the promise of the European Green Agreement into improving our daily lives. "I look forward to seeing the best fruits of European creativity in this year's nominations."
The Cohesion and Reform Commissioner, Eliza Ferreira, stated the following: "Today, more than ever, we need sustainable and innovative ideas to change the way we live and work, leaving no one on the sidelines. The New European Bauhaus rewards the best, boldest and brightest ideas for improving our regions and cities in a people-friendly and global way. "Cohesion policy will continue to help make these new ideas a reality in all European regions, for the benefit of all our communities."
Prizes will be awarded for projects and ideas that contribute to beautiful, sustainable and inclusive spaces, in four categories:
- reconnection with nature;
- regaining the sense of belonging;
- priority to places and people who are most in need ∙
- promoting long-term and integrated life-cycle thinking in the industrial ecosystem.
The accusations reflect the four thematic axes of transformation of the New European Bauhaus. They were identified during the design phase of the initiative, with the participation of thousands of individuals and organizations who contributed their views and experiences. Applications will be evaluated in relation to the three core values of the initiative: sustainability, aesthetics and inclusiveness. Applicants from all Member States and around the world are encouraged to apply if their projects / ideas are located in the European Union.
Each category includes two parallel competition legs:
- the "New European Bauhaus Awards" - for existing projects completed in the last two years; and
- the "Rising Stars of the New European Bauhaus" - for concepts or ideas submitted by young creators under the age of 30.
In addition to the 16 prizes awarded by the jury (one winner / one runner-up / one runner-up for each category and each leg), two additional prizes will be selected from among the nominations by public ballot. In total, 18 winners will receive a cash prize of up to 30 euros, as well as a package of communication material that will help them further promote their initiatives.
The deadline for submitting applications is 28 February 2022 at 19:00 (Central European Time). Applicants of all nationalities and backgrounds are welcome, as long as their ideas and projects have been developed or are in the EU.

The New European Bauhaus is an environmental, economic and cultural project that aims to combine design, sustainability, accessibility, affordability and investment to contribute to the implementation of the Europe Green Agreement.
The new European Bauhaus inaugurated by President Ursula von der Layen in her speech on the state of the Union in 2020, they jointly designed thousands of individuals and organizations from all over Europe and beyond.
In September 2021, the initiative went from planning to implementation with a Commission Communication, which includes policy actions and funding to make it a reality.
